NEW WORK | UNTITLED GOLDEN ARROW SERIES

I worked with Courtney Kelsberg, Bridget Kaufman and Monique Ford on Saturday at my studio in Oakland. Our pursuits being of the utmost pure in creative intent, essentially a collaboration to escape the my hum drum rigamarole of corporate working day drudgery, turned out too beautiful to put off publishing despite the impending dawn at the time of this posting and my crazy schedule at work. There's more work to do on the images but until that time comes to pass, I'll rest tonight knowing that no one but myself checks this and that I will come back to review before blasting it out on Instagram.

PINK HORSES

I'm heading out Monday for New Zealand. Leaving for a spell, this time for 11 days, usually incites an intense need to do something creative for myself. This time it happened to involve pink horses. More to come later, time to pack for Middle Earth.

'BETTER' WORK

I've always held a strong adherence to an ethos I learned from Mark Peterman when I lived in Kansas City. A true photographer will always examine their own work subjectively and objectively challenge themselves to make better photographs. This isn't a direct quote but it's pretty close. I've been stuck in a creative rut with my personal work lately and had a chance to shake out some creative cobwebs in Portland last week. I connected with Lindsey Avenetti, a great stylist and make up artist I've worked with on several jobs at The North Face. We didn't set a lot of parameters or look at any work we were inspired by. We just played with light and a great model, Sarah. 'Better work' is subjective but I think this is step in a better direction. MUA/Styling by Lindsey Avenetti : Modeling by Sarah Schroeder Conde

CIRCLE BACK, THE HYPNOTISM

I spent last night focusing the couple of hours I usually occupy a seedy bar stool working on a new series. Always captivated by making my photographs move, I've put this gif together. Fair warning, hypnotism is likely. More images to come later, I need to go ride a motorcycle now.circle back The Hypnotism.

BACK TO THE STREETS II

Sooner than expected (at least on a personal level… maybe I'm in need of a creative outlet more than I had originally thought) I have a new piece from what I shot last Friday, not sure if it's thought out enough to call a series, yet. Regardless, this is it after slogging in 12 hours at the office in Always Exotic Alameda. Now off to sleep with dreams free of doubt, the Southern Oracle is always watching.

BACK TO THE STREETS

With just a few fleeting hours left in my long winter holiday (many thanks to The North Face's Year End Holiday Shut Down) I put this together from some stills I shot while waiting for Seth Fields to meet me for drinks last Friday night.

I'm sure I'll have more to share later, after I get 2015 kicked off at work. Until then, Be Weird.

CURIOSITY, A Short Film From The North Face.

In August I travelled to Chamonix, France to work with The North Face on several still campaigns for our next season and to produce a short film about Ultrarunning with my friends and production partners from Camp4 Collective. I'm very proud of what we shot in a few short (but very long) days. Covering the race for over 24 hours and telling the story of what goes into running the Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc is a great honor.

DISSONANCE OF COMMUNICATION

Though not a new phenomenon, cell phones and their ability to pull us into a world separate from our current surroundings has been driving me a little crazy lately. I fear we're all de-evolving and all will live plugged into a science fiction reality of constant communication of useless information. Though I not so secretly loathe my phone and hate being attached to it, I would never go anywhere without and it's becoming harder to imagine a world where I would need to.

ILLUSTRATIONS | PAINTINGS

I've been busy outside of my daily routine at The North Face drawing and illustrating to relax at night after a run. I'm not sure where all these paint, pen and ink drawings will live but ultimately the pursuit is my favorite part so it really doesn't matter.

RETURN TO REALITY ALONG CA 395

I spent a week in the desert, specifically in Joshua Tree and Palm Springs, for a personal vacation. This has been a long sought destination and I'm very happy to have been there, to have slept in my tent and to have showered it all off now that I'm back home. I'll likely upload more photographs later this year along with a very over due website content update. north along ca 395south along ca 395

BACK IN THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO | MARCH 2013

I've missed doing street photography, or my version of it. I've also missed San Francisco's downtown. Running there hasn't been enough. I needed to feel the energy of it tonight and it's random predictability. I rode the ferry from work (which is beautiful after a storm) and walked my favorite streets; Pine, Bush, Kearney, Montgomery and Market. This is how I see street photography.

IANDI - LANDSCAPE

It's been a very long time since I've had an opportunity to update my blog. Life's been keeping me busy at work producing and shooting for The North Face, on my own shooting and doing my art and with a few adventures mixed here in San Francisco and out there on my motorcycle.

This is the latest photograph that I've finalized. It's the entry page to a much larger piece I've been working on since 2011. This eventually will be the first introduction image to an exploration in an imaginary world I'm building of animations, drawings, movies and photographs. It's an ambitious project that I'm very excited and passionate about but it's far from finished. In due time it will be live. Check back here for more details in the coming months.
And here's my motorcycle at Ocean Beach after a ride through The City. [Sigh.] I love this machine. Her name is Black and she's my baby.

NEW PROJECT | TITLE TBD, ANIMATED LANDSCAPE DETAILS

Since the middle of September 2011 I've been working on a new project in my geometrically decreasing free time. Shooting exclusively with my Leica, at first only around my North Beach/Telegraph Hill neighborhood then slowly working into the Financial District, I've been documenting some of my favorite buildings. These buildings are slowly being pieced together into one landscape. This landscape will become an animated landscape where windows and doors lead to other photographs and animations. Most of the buildings featured I've never been in and I have no idea what the interiors actually consist of. In these rooms I plan to create animated stories, house my photography or showcase additional projects or art I'm working on. I imagine this ongoing project growing and developing over several years and using it to promote and build new work and collaborations with people I've yet to meet or worked with in the past. I'm still very far from finished on the first tier of the project, the landscape of the city but I want to share some of the details in progress.
